the comment in my blog:

"so i've been to berlin a couple of times now.. but never found this amazing construction (the holocaust memorial). it really has an interesting effect on people. it has been photographed a million times probably.. but it really is a beautiful thing too.

inside there isn't much space to walk. i wanted a shot of someone walking right through the frame but people pop out in all distances at random. so i didn't quite know where to focus. also when you see someone appearing it's too late to hit the button.. "

Beautiful tones, a wonderfully balanced composition, and superb timing/predicting have come together here to form a unique and hauntingly beautiful image that, in my opinion, is more than deserving of this DD. Suggester of memorial by `coxi says, "One of the things that turns me off when browsing the Street Cat is the amount of clichés, ordinary and repeatable shots displayed. It gets boring. Then there are a few photographers that can shine through that myriad of unoriginal greyness. To me this particular photo (or any of this man, tbh) embodies many aspects of what Street photography is all about: unique composition, perfect timing, thought-provoking setting and rich tones." Like so many others, the Holocaust moves me in a way I cannot explain. There is a gut reaction, a very visceral feeling when confronted with the thought that over six million people were removed from this planet in the most cruellest of ways. Just one man walking within this memorial, one nameless man... Your picture is so profound because this one man represents all who died at the hands of the Nazis, all the lives snuffed out - he comes across as a ghost, a fragment of another time lost, but not forgotten because of our determination not to forget. I think this picture is truly magnificent. :)

Very cool! It's such a dark setting, with the long stretching walkways.
Congrats on the timing.
